Gnoll prototype

This is the first one out of four so it was the prototype for the rest.

Here are the different colours I used.

A generic grey primer, maybe not my best idea, the miniature does look so nice. The primer is kind of glossy and does not attach well to it.

Lately I'm using citadel corax white in spray which works much better. I have also a vallejo white primer for brush which I still have to try but which looks promising.

Armour

Base: Citadel Lead belcher

1st layer: GreenSuff intensity Ink tenebris blue

Axe blade

Base: citadel lead belcher

1st layer: citadel contrast gryph-charger grey (no the best idea)

2nd layer: GreenSuff intensity ink opulentus black (better, looks like a very dark, dull metal)

Axe handle

Base: vallejo bone white

Wash: diluted GreenSuff intensity ink opulentus black

This combo seems to work very good for bone like items.

Shield and not blue armour parts

Base: citadel lead belcher

1st layer: GreenSuff intensity Ink swamp brown

Armour undercoat

One layer of GreenSuff intensity Ink swamp brown directly over the grey primer

Fur

Base: citadel Zandri dust

Dots: citadel mournfang brown

Wash: 1:3 mixture of Army Painter Red wash : vallejo Umber wash

Snout and teeth

A bit of black ink and carefully almost dry vallejo bone white

Eyes

A bit of citadel wild rider red (which is actuality quite orange)

Feet

For the leather stripes, citadel contrast snakebite leather. But it has not enough contrast with the colour of the fur therefore I applied a bit of citadel Lothern blue.

For the actual feet,

Base: vallejo sombre grey

Wash with vallejo umber wash

Not the look I was aiming for

Should be more dark and brownish.

Base

Vallejo desert yellow followed by Army Painter Red wash

Rock

Army Painter Red wash directly over the grey primer

Here some photos of the different steps.

Wraith

I keep using the Dungeons and Dragons miniatures from the Parker board game.

This time I took the wraith.

The primer was Citadel Corax White, for the whole body of the miniature I applied a first layer of Citadel Contrast Magos Purple followed by Army Painter Red Tone Wash.

For the tombstone I used the Army Painter Dark Tone directly over the Corax White undercoat.

The base was painted with Vallejo Cold Grey and washed with slightly diluted Greenstuff Opulentus Black ink.

The whole miniature was ready in almost no time.

Hope you like it.

Skeletons - painting project

I have still some miniatures from the second version of the Descent board game. Amongst them, there were some skeleton archers which I decided to paint with the Greenstuff inks and the Citadel Contrast paints I have been playing with those last months. As usual, it took me ages to paint the miniatures since I only do it on idle moments with weeks or even months between each painting session. Therefore I am not able to recall exactly how I did it or the steps or even which exact paints :) Therefore, I will just put here some pictures representing the process and evolution of the project. Hope you like it. :)

Giant - regular paints / Citadel contrast paints

To try out some of the Citadel Contrast paints I decided to do a Giant from the Descent game.

I did this some time ago and I did not write down how I did it so, some details are more obscure than others in my memory.

The primer was a grey spray from the hardware store.
The trousers are Vallejo Caiman Green, the red top is Citadel Flesh Tearers Red, the skin is Vallejo Bronze Fleshtone, the Stone in the weapon is Vallejo Cold Grey, the stripes around it and some details on the model may be Vallejo Kaki, the pouch and dagger are Citadel Snakebite Leather (one coat) and the wooden part of the weapon the same but twice coated.

I visited my FLGS were I got some advice and some help with the further painting.
I applied a Citadel Green shade on the trousers, but the effect was almost invisible.
The weapon, upper red top and specially the hair were done with a dark wash (maybe black); in the case of the hair it was done directly on top of the grey primer.

The left arm and the right arm got different finishing washed, I am sure that I wanted to compare them but I cannot remember which ones I used ;)

For the nail detail I used probably Vallejo dead flesh.

And this is it.

Winter wolf - painting

Painting journal

In preparation to paint a blue troll for the game Drako, Knights and Trolls I did this "winter wolf" with a miniature from the Descent boardgame.

Primer was the grey from the hardware store.

Base was Citadel Calgar Blue in the whole model.

In the hair behind the head and the end of the tail I applied Citadel Contrast Aethermatic Blue, therefore the greenish hue in those areas.

In the body and head I applied Green Stuff Intensity Ink Tenebrous Blue and for the mouth I used Green Stuff Intensity Ink Sacra Purple.

The outcome was missing contrast, so I tried some  dry brush highlights with a mixture of Vallejo Grey Wolf with a bit of the Tenebrous Blue ink.

The base of the model was done with an undercoat of Vallejo Grey Wolf and partial wash with a very diluted blue wash (also from Vallejo).
The eyes got a small dot in Vallejo Grey Wolf.
